About the Author

Marcy J. Miller has published non-fiction, fiction, essays, and poetry in magazines ranging from Horse Illustrated to Police Chief.  She graduated with highest distinction from the University of Arizona with a BA in English Literature (Phi Beta Kappa) and has been cited in Who’s Who in American Women.  Her poem, “Urban Pavilions” has won honorable mention in the Arizona Authors’ Association Literary Competition.  Marcy's story, "Ride," won second place in the 2007 Cave Creek Film and Arts Festival.

Ms. Miller is skilled in shooting, horsemanship, literary analysis, and management and leadership.  She is certified by the International Association of Fire Fighters as an instructor in First Response to Weapons of Mass Destruction.   She teaches survival and awareness seminars to diverse audiences of individuals who wish to better prepare themselves for threat recognition, avoidance, and evasion.  Ms. Miller has a 20-year background in law enforcement including 12 years as a municipal lieutenant.  Her police experience includes service as a Patrol Officer, Mounted Officer, Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Training Sergeant, Hostage Negotiations Team Supervisor, Basic Training Lieutenant, Watch Commander, and Personnel Development Division commander. She is now a full-time writer.

Ms. Miller's non-fiction horse book, Miller's Horse:  Intriguing Horse Facts was released to outstanding media reviews in 2006.  Miller has been featured in 101 North:  The Magazine of North Scottsdale; The East Valley Tribune; A Peek at the Peak; and The Desert Advocate.  Her books have been cited or reviewed by The Seattle Post-Intelligencer online; Bridle & Bit online; Scottsdale Airpark News; The Desert Advocate; and several other publications.  Miller's book signings include an invitational appearance at the Arizona Author's Book Fair. 

Miller's novel, Crossroads, was released in 2005.  With this work, Miller indulged her passion for experimenting with form, metaphor, and genre. 

 A native Arizonan, Miller’s close connection with the landscape of her stories is evident.  She resides in Cave Creek, Arizona, where she raises Quarter Horses.  Marcy has recently launched "Ironwood Leather," a custom-tooled leather craft studio, and invites you to visit her new site, www.ironwoodleather.com
